English Walnut is one of my favourite woods to use, with its rich chocolate colour and easy workability it is a joy to turn.
This piece came from the tree that was badly damaged in a recent storm and the owner wanted it to be used rather than chopped up for firewood. It had a big patch of white sapwod that was ideal for a panel of pyrography decoration, this is done wire a hot glowing wire with each segment marked out with a knife then filled in with a 2mm ball. The small heart shake has been filled with bronze epoxy making a feature of it. The Walnut lid has an 18tpi handcut thread ensureing a secure closure. It is finished with four coats of an eco-friendly hardwax oil which requires no maintenance other than dusting when necessary with a soft cloth.
It measures 280mm H x 160mm and has a volume of 3.1 litres
