Spalted Beech with a Ziracote Threaded Lid

Spalted Beech with a Ziracote threaded lid and aluminium epoxy infill.
The colouring in this piece isn't typical of spalting, normally there are black zone lines denoting separate areas but they don't seem to have developed before I started to process the log.
Spalting is part of the decaying process where different fungi start to break down the cellulose in the wood. Wood borer had also begun their journey in eating their way through the log evidenced in the numerous small holes that they leave behind which I have drilled out and filled with Aluminium epoxy before applying 4 coats of hardwax oil.
As part of the drying process all my Spalted Beech urns are microwaved to arrest the spalting process and kill any borer that haven't emerged.
The Ziracote lid and corresponding collar have a hand cut 12 tpi thread ensuring a secure closure.
