Amazing Spalted Figured Olive Ash

Print
Spalted figured Olive Ash with a Robinia lid.

Description

This piece came from a tree that blew down in the hamlet of Weston on Avon during a storm in Feb 2023 narrowly missing two passing cars. I know the farmer who offered me the trunk, they were going to cut it up for firewood if I didn't have it. The reason it fell over was down to the dreaded Ash Die Back disease which is killing vast numbers of our native Ash. Spalting is part of the process of the tree decaying, differrent fungii invade the wood to eat the cellulose causing the discolourations and patterns, however, once the wood is dry the process stops.
All the little drying splits and cracks have been filled with bronze epoxy, making a feature of them.

It has a Robinia Pseudo Acacia lid with a 12tpi handcut thread and a corresponding  English Boxwood collar.

It measures 265mm H x 165mm D with a capacity of 3.2ltrs (10 ⅝" x 6 ½") (195 cu in)
