Coloured Burred Maple with Carved Decoration

The tree that this urn came from had out grown private garden in Stratford upon Avon so it was removed by my favourite tree surgeon who knows what I'm interested in.
Maple is an ideal wood for colouring as it's normally a creamy white colour and readily accepts stains. in this instance I have carved a helix around the piece, one, to break up the surface of what is quite a large piece and two, it shows the natural colour of the wood. The eyes in the burr have been filled with holographic epoxy and the whole piece has been finished with eco friendly gloss and satin waterborne lacquers. The lid is made from a piece of rare white burr Ash and has a 12tpi handcut thread ensuring a secure closure.

It measures: 300mm H x 190mm D (12" H x 7 ½" D)  and has a volume of 5ltrs (305 cu in)
